When you purchased your gun, you probably made a list of accessories you’d need to go along with it. Naturally, one of those accessories should be a holster.
Holsters come in various forms, and some serve specific purposes. So how do you know which one is right for you? Here are a few things to consider.

Your Purpose
When choosing a holster, the first thing you should consider is what you plan to use it for. If you’re just going to shoot recreationally, a basic side holster will work fine. However, if you plan to compete, you may want to look into competition holsters.
Retention Level
Gun safety should always be a top priority when wearing or handling your gun. For that reason, you’ll want to carefully consider your holster’s retention level. There are four retention levels. Level 1 has the least amount of tension, meaning it’ll be easy for someone to take it. Level 4 has three retention methods, making it nearly impossible to get disarmed.
Material
The two most common holster materials are leather and Kydex, a rigid thermoplastic material. The biggest difference between the two is how they hold up over time. Leather can ultimately stretch, wear, or tear. On the other hand, Kydex is sturdy enough that it’ll never change its shape.
Trigger Coverage
One of the most important aspects of a holster is how well it covers the trigger. Make sure the holster you choose fully conceals the trigger. If it’s not concealed, you could risk you or someone else firing your weapon by mistake.
The proper holster is essential when it comes to gun safety. You’ll want something that offers excellent quality, comfort, and ease of use. Always remember that your holster is essentially a part of your gun. If your holster and gun don’t suit each other, they won’t suit you.
